SAMU En-Nichi Festival・2022

2022.09.02

Tokyo is still hot and humid daytime, but evenings are now cool and pleasant.
With the refreshing autumn breeze, the next season is right around the corner.
SAMU held our school En-Nichi festival on the start of September.

縁日 (縁en ‘a special tie/relation’ + 日nichi ‘day’) is a day with a special tie to a deity or Buddha.
It is said that worshippers receive extra blessings by visiting shrines/temples on this auspicious day.
Food vendors and game stalls line the streets leading up to the holy grounds.
Sounds of the flute and drums lift people’s spirits and add to the festive atmosphere.

This year, teachers and staff arranged each classroom as an individual game stall offering various activities including a shooting range, cotton candy machine and craft workshops.
Students went from stall to stall, trying their hands at different games.
Some won prizes showing expressions of joy.

Earlier this year, another En-Nichi festival took place.
However, the atmosphere was not as vibrant due to the lack of participants by the pandemic.
This time, almost all students participated and added greatly to the liveliness.

Near the end, one student came up to us and shared her enjoyment of the class and asked to let the faculty know how much fun she had. This was one heartwarming moment.
